Hood in the Hub Project
Hood in the Hub – Building Sustainable Community in Warrane
The Hood in the Hub is a project led by the Warrane Mornington Neighbourhood Centre (WMNC) in support of the Warrane Community Garden (WCG). It proposes the construction of a small, sustainable, and multipurpose building within the garden to enhance accessibility, resilience, and community connection.
This building project will:
Improve accessibility and usability of the garden space for all visitors
Demonstrate sustainable design principles and materials
Offer educational value throughout the design and construction process
Set a precedent for future environmentally conscious buildings in the City of Clarence
Continue to serve as a demonstration site for sustainable practices after completion
Once built, the Hub will provide a long-needed all-weather space for garden activities, community workshops, and wellbeing programs. It will expand the Centre's infrastructure and support greater collaboration with local groups and services.
Broad Support, Growing Momentum
The project has already gained support from a wide network of stakeholders, including:
Tasmanian State Government (with partial funding committed)
Clarence City Council (land lease and development support)
Educational institutions, local businesses & services, community organisations,
volunteers, and neighbours
The current focus is on raising the remaining funds to bring this sustainable vision to life.
