Pick your Patch

Fun flexible roles to make your own (updated 4/11/2025):

Looking for different ways to get involved at the Warrane Community Garden?

Apart from our regular Friday morning musters (10am -12pm) & third Sunday of each month Bees (9am -12pm) we have lots of other short and sweet ways to get involved and stay connected:

Whether you love getting your hands dirty, supporting others in a social setting, keeping things organised, or sharing content through social media, we’ve got a role that fits your strengths.
These tasks are flexible and every one of them helps the garden (and our community) thrive. Pick a patch and make it your own or team up with others showing interest and make it more social!

Seed Library – Seed Librarian Support

Help our Seed Library thrive! These roles involve helping our lead Seed Librarians to keep the seed drawers organised, and rotate or restock seeds as needed. You can choose to work mainly with native seeds, edibles or work/learn about both!
A simple way to support seed sharing and keep our garden growing strong.

Commitment: 15 - 30+ minutes, weekly or fortnightly.

Seniors Visits – Conversation Companion

Join our friendly team welcoming seniors who visit the garden for some fresh air and company. This role is all about warm conversation, helping with gentle activities, and making visitors feel at home. These roles will also help us explore a longer term vision to establish the Warrane Community Garden as a dementia friendly Nature Hub in collaboration with the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre.

Commitment: 1 hour, weekly or fortnightly (weather dependent).

Bunnings BBQs - Volunteer Servers & BBQers
After the success of our first Bunnings BBQ we are keen to repeat these.
If you are interested in helping with future BBQ’s we’d love to hear from you.
Commitment: 4 hours on a Saturday, two - three times a year. Dates for 2026 now available.

Comms Cultivators – Garden Communications
Help us spread the word and share the magic of the garden! This creative role contributes to our social media, newsletters, and other digital content — from snapping photos and writing posts to designing simple graphics.
Great for someone with a flair for storytelling, digital skills and a love for community.

Commitment: Flexible — approx. 30 mins – 1.5 hours per week (can be done remotely)

Couch Grass - Drying Champion
Got some energy to burn and love a physical task?
Help process this valuable garden waste into a resource by managing our system for processing invasive couch grass (once our volunteers have removed it from the growing spaces).  We’ll show you how — your efforts will support a more efficient, sustainable process.
Commitment: 15–30 minutes, weekly.

Community Compost – Compost Keeper
Help our compost stay healthy and humming! This role involves checking and maintaining our small community compost bins — turning, tidying, and making sure everything is breaking down as it should.
Commitment: 15–20 minutes, weekly or fortnightly.
