Harvest Festival 2025

Join us in the garden on Saturday March 29 for this fun family harvest festival event!

29 March is the day before Neighbour Day and Harvest Festival is a great opportunity for you to meet more of the neighbourhood.

Plant stalls, produce, childrens’ activities, live music, garden weed identification, workshops, fresh flowers, bbq, great coffee and more…

Stall sites available.
If you are a community group with an information stall or would like to sell handmade, locally harvested or garden related items, please contact Katie - garden@wmnc.org.au. 0499 078 490

All funds raised go towards constructing a small multi-purpose building (hub) at the garden to welcome volunteers, participants and visitors at the garden.

Weed Id and Tips – Amanda & Annabel 9:30 - 11:30am
Got a garden weed that you need identified?
Bring your unknown weeds to our free weed ID stall at Harvest Festival!
Please place your weed/s in a sealed bag for assessment by our weed experts Anabel & Amanda. Get the name of your weed and some tips on how best to tackle the weed in question.
Or just bring your questions about the weeds you already know.

Biochar Intro with Bill Harvey 9:40-9:55am
Have you heard how good biochar is for gardens? It's really good!
Biochar Champion Bill Harvey will explain why how biochar is made and discuss its benefits as a soil conditioner.
Bill will also have some biochar samples on hand to give away

Nurturing Nature (Pricking out native seedlings) with Anna 10:10 - 10:30am
Learn some tips on pricking out the seedlings of Tasmanian endemic native plants. Anna has propagated seedlings from the Warrane Community Garden Native Plants Patch. Visit the parent plants in the adjacent Patch and ask your questions as Anna demonstrates how to prick out seedlings. A worksheet will be available.

Visible Mending Q&A with Nat Mendham 10am - 11am
Holes developing in our gardening clothes can be hard to avoid. But fixing them can add meaning and beauty to our gear.
Nat from Eastside Repair Cafe will have examples of her beautiful visible mending on display and will be welcoming your questions about visible mending. Look for Nat at the Eastside Repair Cafe stall .

Line Dancing Demonstration with Laura Rittenhouse - 11am - 11:30am
If you've ever been curious about Line Dancing, get along to this session with talented dancer and founder of Boots and All Line Dancing, Laura Rittenhouse. A perennial highlight of our seasonal events, all are welcome to jump in and scoot your boots!

Making Marks with Ailsa 11:40 - 11:55am
Learn some tips and tips on creating writing tools from the garden.
Experienced Gardener and Calligrapher Ailsa Fergusson will demonstrate how to make calligraphy tools from common stems found in the garden!

Major Fundraising Activities you could support as part of Harvest Festival 2025:

Raffle - Grab your tickets at the welcome table between 9:30 and 11:50am. (Main gate on Heemskirk St).

Grow Bag Packs - Howrah Nursery generously donated a large number of quality brand new Grow Bags which we will be selling at below retail prices in lead up to and at Harvest Festival. Think about all the container gardening you could do with these puppies!
We will have various brand new growbag packs (100L & 150L plus various other sizes yet to be sorted) will be available for sale.
The Garden City Plastics range of Woven Bags are Australian Made from Heavy Duty Polyethylene. Features the Easy Fill Round Base which ensures bags are easily filled. Sits well on the ground after potting with the flat base. Strong double stitched handles with UV treated thread adds strength and longevity.

Multipurpose Worm Farm
Another wonderful multipurpose worm farm-cum-potting-bench, made by Warrane Community Garden volunteer, Sam, is up for grabs!

Thoughtfully designed and built from reclaimed materials, there’s hundreds of dollars worth of beautiful function right here.
And many many hours of work have gone into this beauty.
Worm farmers / Gardeners keen to support this Community Garden Fundraiser will decide what it is worth to you.

Features:
- Split lid for ease of access to farm
- Lid prop to prevent accidental damage to hinges
- Sturdy enough to be used as extra seating (for tall people or just add a block step)
- Can be used as a specialised potting bench only; store pots on shelf underneath and use the bath/farm space to store your potting mix!

Includes
- separation trays (allowing air gap on bottom of tub) and shade cloth (separates air gap and worm castings).
- local delivery (within 10km of Warrane Community Garden -or possibly further by negotiation).
